The Reparations Debate: Should America Compensate the Descendants of Slaves? | The Daily Show

No they should not. I believe about 1.6% of the US population owned slaves. That means about 98% did not. Leading people to believe everyone is responsible, is wrong. I condemn slavery and realize there is no one alive today who suffered under this blight on America and many other countries. I cannot agree that paying reparations would not only cause great harm to America further dividing the country, but there is no way to determine who and how much would be paid. Because you are a descendant of slaves, does not justify reparations for something that ended 155 years ago. Reparations benefit none, other than serving as rhetoric brewed by politicians attempting to garner the black vote.
