American History can have a lot of twists and turns. Before there were Southern Conservative Republicans, there were Southern Conservative Democrats, later known as "Dixiecrats." As part of the response to Brown vs. Board of Education, Southern Leaders developed the "Southern Manifesto." Look it up, and understand why were moving ahead, and at the same time moving backwards.
