I love reading about the Spartans. I have Plutarch's complete works and there is a lot to like.

I love learning about the Attitudes and Politics of the time and how they are currently mirrored and or reflected.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - If anything, we are more like the Athenians politically in my opinion. The Spartans lived in almost complete penury. They enjoyed a plain existence of military training. The Athenians one the other hand enjoyed their wealth and privilege. Perhaps that is why they fell to the Spartans.

Interesting Observation. I see both in current politics and mentality, Athenians: Intellectually Elite, Believed in Walls, Big Navy Folks. Spartans: Open Country Folks, More Martial/Military, Big Army Folks more Emphasis on Physical Fitness. Modern Democrats share a lot in common with Athenians, Modern Republicans share a lot in common with Spartans (Except the Wall Thing).
