This sad commentary is playing itself out all across this country, where cemeteries have lost nearly all their sentimental, nostalgic, and religious significance. As a member of a few pioneer cemetery preservation boards and trustee of others, what I see truly saddens me.

Sad story, extraordinary photos, SCPO (Join to see). I lived in Brentwood, Tennessee for many years. There’s not one public cemetery in the entire town. However, it seems like each neighborhood has a small private family cemetery that naturally must be maintained. Most of the cemeteries have graves from the Civil War and earlier.

That’s cool. I am a major cemetery-holic. I love reading the markers, trying to imagine the lives of the those sleeping beneath my feet. I also volunteer for genealogical work for people on Find-a-Grave.com. Love the work, hate the weeds and bugs.
