We need to maintain security in our ground forces. They started this dangerous habit of embedded reporters in Vietnam and in Iraq. I think the safety of our troops is more important than any story.

It is a two edged sword - is the safety of our troops more important than letting the people know what their military is doing - and is it worth the loss of history in not doing it? Realize that the other side of that sword in not doing it for security reasons - allows an enemy to do it and defeat you strategically. The world changed in the revolution of communications - our Armed forces have to figure out the best road ahead and do better than we have been doing.

People may recall the complacency about tactical communications in Viet Nam. After the war it was discovered the NVA was all over our nets. We telegraphed everything to them including the coordination for the ARCLIGHT missions. We killed a shit load of monkeys while they pulled their guys out.

Also to consider as a vulnerability are the security of our satellite capabilities. Not only the possibility of physical damage but compromised capabilities.
