When I got to SFTG in APR70, it had been there less than a year. Here’s the photo I took way back when.

LTC Stephen C. - Great picture. I always make a point to visit the Memorial Plaza when I'm in the area. The one place I have never visited is the Gabriel Demonstration area. Do they still have those demonstrations?

Camp San Luis Obispo, CA ‘had’ a tall statue of a Soldier within 50 meters of the Main Gate Guard Shack. It was to commemorate the 8,500 Soldiers trained there for the Korean War.
The statue remained there for perhaps 30 years after that training ended in 1953.
Suddenly, it vanished! So much for the CAARNG’s Gate Guards! Yes, I know that ‘state’ could not always afford full time gate guards!
CSLO, CA is now the supply depot -aka - ,USP&FO for the CAARNG.
‘The painted rocks’ on a near hillside represented the South Western Signal Depot Traing Camp.
