Worked for both private sector and public sector. Found 5 and 7 to be common practice. Free food was part of a company I once worked for. Bagels on Tuesday were common. Frankly, I liked it. Forced fun is a hallmark of DoD civil service. Almost all of the fun activities required of military members are open to civilian employees and we were encouraged to participate. I never saw any fun in the fun run. Also, we had a annual unit picnic which many attended but few truly enjoyed.

As for 7, the security clearance and drug test protocols are common for military members. The security clearance process is the same for civilian contractors and government civilians. Intrusive, but necessary. Lived with some very elaborate, multi-layered security systems working in Top Secret areas and SCIFs. Again, somewhat of a pain, but necessary.

I don't think I was ever underpaid as either an employee of a Government contractor or as a DoD civilian. I did work long hours at both jobs, but I was rewarded.
