In our barracks we had an airman who would sneak into others rooms and draw on their faces with a Sharpie marker when they were drunk or asleep.

Shaving cream eyebrows are pretty fun and, if a hand is hanging out of the bunk, a warm bowl of water can sometimes provide interesting results.

In Basic at Ft Jackson I was in an open squad bay with 49 other females. In AIT at Ft Benjamin Harrison, it was also open bay barracks. Upon arrival at Ft McClellan, I was assigned to a three man room with no roommates and I had to buff the entire floor myself! That’s when I made friends with several male soldiers who hated to iron. So, they buffed my floor and spit shined my boots and I ironed uniforms! I thought it was a great trade off! (Then, my Dad sent me an extremely large oriental rug and I never had to worry about the floor... I still starched and ironed uniforms in exchange for the spit shined boots!) FYI: I worked in Class B’s and they were really easy to iron!

A guy named Larry, straight from tech-school, move into the barracks one day. Dude seemed ok until one day we saw him move in a large cabinet with (gasp) a commercial type sewing machine. Most of us kind of chuckled and thought this guy might be a bit on the weird side. What is he going to do with a sewing machine? Sew doll clothes? It all became very clear in a few short days. Before joining the AF he worked in his family dry cleaning and alteration business in Massachusetts. Larry made a killing sewing on patches, stripes, name tags, altering fatigues, etc. during his down time. There were even a few commissioned crew-dog types that brought their crew blues in for Larry to work on. We didn’t laugh at Larry any more. The local BX folks and squadron commander eventually convinced him it was in his best interest to take up another “hobby.”
