COL Charles Williams Now the only question is wil the pricing be below Walmart? I've found lately that the pricing at the commissary is a little higher on some items then Walmart. If the commissaries are going to compete with Walmart they need to become more competitive with Walmart in my opinion, but that is tough because of the massive distribution system that Walmart has in place. Some of the Commissaries are now charging a convenience tax also. In California at Camp Pendleton we had to pay 8% on top of the final bill. I remember when there was no taxes at all. Here at Fort Carson, CO I believe we are paying a 5% orr 6% convenience tax on the final bill. I wonder if Walmart could take over the Commissary contract and make our Commissaries more comeptetive, so more of our service members and retirees would shop there; and we need mkae it available to all of our Reserve and Air/Army National Guard service members, if it isn't already. Sorry for the long reply.
