Chip I am going to rant, in agreement, a bit. In a Special Forces Group we have lots of jobs in addition to the knuckle dragging barbarians on the teams. The team guys cant do their jobs if they don't have a little support.
I would send my teams deep into bad guy land and would send a cook, mechanic, or whatever with them. It worked out both great. The support guy got to go out to bad guy land and work with a team, the team got an extra set of hands. When the mission was over they appreciated each other much more. In many times they became friends, which is cool

...I would routinely ask my support guys who wanted to go out to a team, if I could spare them and a team needed them, I'd send 'em

LTC Jeff Shearer - Nope, Nope and Hell No, I Know where the Seals would drop the Spec War Unit O-Brancher Off (The Sewer System in Beirut) Yeah You're Less Likely to be Shot or Blown Up but the Accommodations Suck. I was plenty happy being a Outboard Tacintel Man with My Nice Rack and Warm Chow ready and waiting.
