I went thru boot camp at Parris Island in June, July and August of 1959. It was like the DI. Only their was more verbal usage. WE were called Maggots, lower than whale shit and that was at the bottom of the ocean. They would come up to us, while we were standing at attention look like they were straightening our tie out and pinch real hard. One time we had a recruit who couldn't get the drill right. The DI. got tired of screaming at him, took his M1 Rifle and brought down on his foot. It broke his toe. The DI. told the recruit to go to medical. He told him what to say to the corpsman. The DI. said if you tell him what happened you'll wish you had never been born. By the Time we graduated we thought we could whip the world. Proudest day of my life. A 2nd Lt. spoke to us. "Gentlemen you are Elite their are only 170,000 of us. Semper Fi.

I did Basic back in 1965 (Army) played a little in Southeast Asia, played a little more at Ft.Polk La.but truth be told that first encounter with Uncle Sam’s introduction committee still stands out brilliantly in this old guy’s noggin, Welcome Home Brothers.
