One thing I do know, yes it was our failures which brought about the rise of the extremists, but it was not the failures of the military, it was the failures of Paul Bremer at the lead of the CPA. He cut out the Iraqi people who were willing to help, many were in the military. He had no real plan for the people of Iraq to move forward themselves. I remember when I first got to Iraq there was no problem driving around in a soft top. By the time I departed soft tops were "off limits". If he'd enlisted the help of the Iraqi military, I believe the borders would have been secured, the ammo dumps might have been secured and not left open for plunder by anyone and everyone. With out help from the locals, who soon because disenchanted with us of many reasons, one is the old "east meets west". We failed to understand their ways. I know I had no training, no understand. There were a combination of things which didn't help. All in All - it was a political failure, not a military failure. But this is just my view.

Everytime I think about Iraq I get a little pissed. I think of the wasted opportunities and shitty strategic planning that went into this whole operation. Why do we think overnight we could bring American democracy to a place that has always known violence? It's the biggest blunder of my lifetime.
