This is the U.S. military’s new medal for troops fighting ISIS

This is kind of sad they come up with all these different medals made up for certain police actions. We all know that word way to well. When you get out of the military all your medals do make nice wall decorations and memories. Because they mean nothing in the civilian world. Plus we don't fight to get medals we fight to keep America free and safe.

it seems to me that this medal will be more rare than the GWOT-E Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal or the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. not that many SMs have been sent to these areas.

Completely unnecessary. This is what the GWOTEM is there for.
