Once while living in Hawaii, a Japanese warplane that no one knew of, appeared out of the dense foliage surfing atop a mud slide. It added to the count (I believe 27) of Japanese warplanes shot down during the attack on Pearl Harbor. It got me to considering a book documenting each story and what happened to the pilots. I was hoping that I could find all except one that I could fictionalize, maybe operating a noodle shop on Waikiki Beach. The stories I was able to research were most interesting including one pilot who was found wearing a University of Hawaii class ring when his body was pulled from his cockpit.
