They knew the regulation to have a pilot in place was there BEFORE they started the journey, they just wanted to save the money. Sorry. no sympathy from me.
And this had NOTHING to do with politics or Hillary.

The pilots can charge what they want since they are not a government entity. If they were told the cost and came anyway...

If I had a pilots license I would go do it for free just for the opportunity to sail apon such a ship.

SA Harold Hansmann, I hope you have a lot of big tackle and a big reel. You're gonna need them at sea.

That is pretty pricey. Once you leave the Open Sea, you have to have a pilot. They know the waters. Granted, a good seaman can "read" the waters and find any shoals and stay out of trouble. It being a Tall Ships thing, I wonder if the Pilots Association wasn't taking advantage of that. Boston, New York, and down here in Norfolk, Va. have a Tall Ships thing, and I believe Baltimore as well. I don't think Canada uses Pilots. I don't remember one when we were going into St. Johns, Newfoundland when we went in there. There was a storm Blowing and rough and had to pass through two Heads ( one on each side and it wasn't all that wide ). Tricky stuff that.

FN Charlie Spivey, I'm with you on the scalping the Captain. You were correct that Canada doesn't require a pilot ship.
