Funny how this is from 2014 ... but now its news.... and Trumps fault....

On the Note of paying them... why pay them at all? they are in PRISON!! They should be forced to clean, and maintain the facility they are housed in. They are Criminals and the ones in this article are illegal immigrant criminals waiting to find out if and when they will be deported. How about they pay back who ever it was they wronged to end up there?

I have nothing against people Legal immigration, I have nothing against reforming criminals... I do take issue with liberals demanding we give criminals 3 hots, a cot and now pay them... what's next they should get 15 an hour? Think we wont see more people turning to crime just so they can get that deal?

If there was a Zombie Apocalypse I swear Liberals would advocate for Zombie rights....

SSG Jessica Bautista - Yes there are laws against Slavery, being "undocumented" which is code for Illegal Alien, is a Crime punishable by deportation. if you have illegally entered America or over stayed your Visa or entered under fraudulent reasons, you can and will be deported. I am totally cool with legal immigration, but why should those that are breaking the rules be allowed to stay?
As for the Slavery being in America against the law creates its own version of slavery does it not? Illegals can not report a sweat shop not following labor law, they can not report if they are forced into prostitution, they become slaves due to their refusal to obey our laws, and controlled by lawless people.

Take a look at the law in Mexico to be an immigrant...
◾in the country legally;
◾have the means to sustain themselves economically;
◾not destined to be burdens on society;
◾of economic and social benefit to society;
◾of good character and have no criminal records; and
◾contributors to the general well-being of the nation.
The law also ensures that:
◾immigration authorities have a record of each foreign visitor;
◾foreign visitors do not violate their visa status;
◾foreign visitors are banned from interfering in the country’s internal politics;
◾foreign visitors who enter under false pretenses are imprisoned or deported;
◾foreign visitors violating the terms of their entry are imprisoned or deported;
◾those who aid in illegal immigration will be sent to prison.

On the subject of For profit Prisons I am against them, you are correct that they only make money if the cells are full so it benefits them to have criminals. We should look at ways to reduce the Prison population, deportation seems viable for anyone not a US citizen.. I also think the death penalty should be used for Child Rapists, Rapist, and Murders... But I'm old school.

Great reply. Very detailed, too. All that being said, I guess our immigration laws are their own worst enemy. I think they need to be changed as part of 'immigration reform'.

Nope. If you look at the numbers, it really isn't anymore than Obama at this stage in the term. It's just getting reported as if it were.

So I am guessing they are getting paid the exact same amount an inmate at a federal prison gets paid for being an orderly. $.23 per hour. Or a $1.15 a day based on a 5 hour work day.

It's a standard practice in Prisons to make inmates responsible for keeping up the facilities where they live, and often having them perform work for payments or credits.
That being said it can become a slippery slope. If you want to read about a real scam dealing with prisoners research Angola prison in Louisiana. It was founded as nothing more than slave labor via a crooked judicial system. Young black males were arrested for petty or trumped up crimes and "hired out" as cheap labor to farms and other work projects. The Warden, guards and Law enforcement who provided the men got paid per head.

And everyone in prison claims they are innocent. This is such a non story it doesn't even qualify as fake news. If H had won, it'd never see the light of day.
