Too often it does seem like the only military thinker out there was Old Karl, but that is way far from the truth. Great read on someone else who provided the footing to the core of our military thinking and planning.

Agree - usual emphasis by those writing seems to always turn to Dead Karl, however - he was but one thinker.... and many paved the way for him that were Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Indian, Venetian, English,French and Chinese. I am not sure how widely read Five Rings was in 1800s in Europe.... even though it was written in about 1650 in Japan... so I do not include Japanese in that footing for the house of military thought in Clausewitz's time. But I sure would include them for our time...
