This was very nice. How many USCG personnel are in Boston? If there were 10K, they would get 3 lbs. If there are 200 USCG in Boston, they would each get 150 lbs. Who is going to help them truck that much to their hooch? I feel sorry for those who have a mini cooper car. It is nice to see people helping out. When they get their back pay, I hope they remember the charities that helped them.

I know it is hard but they knew the shutdown was possible. I rode out at least three. Be prepared..

Thanks, I thought I was the only one that rode out these in the past. At least it seemed that way on RP...and when I watch the news, I sure see a lot of fiction.

I remember the 13 day shutdown I think it was in 2013. I worked every day at the VA. Most of the other staff were off. They got back pay. Which meant a near 2 week vacation. I got back pay for hours worked while they got 13 days of leave.
As for the financial impact the union sent out tons of forms you could submit to your banks who held mortgages car loans etc. and most of them did not penalize you for late payments.
I remember we had just bought our first house so we were quite poor. What did we do? We buckled down and didn’t go out. Ate cheaply (lots of spaghetti and ramen!) and had to use credit cards a little for gas and groceries. This was when we were still living paycheck to paycheck. It wasn’t fun, but it was doable without too much hardship.

I also had the same story. We survived. It sure sounds bad in the news, but reality...I am doing ok today.
