Conflict is almost always the result of several factors—political unrest, ethnic tensions, economics, among other things. But British journalist Tim Marshall argues there’s another factor we should be paying attention to—geography. The war in Ukraine, he says, is no exception.

I was going to say duh, but that would not contribute to this post. I am sure the Ukrainians have a better understand of the terrain than Russia like obstacles, impassable ground, and geography that allows Ukrainians to maneuver without being seen.
Great leaders sometimes accomplish the impossible. Hannibal crossed the Alps to reach Italy with elephants. Alexander the great built forts and bought horses and reduced the size of his units. I believe Patton conducted 5 amphibious landings.

Geography is the largest reson Putin invaded, given the natural resources Ukraine has. And with them moving to a more free market and applying to become part of the EU trading block and then getting more favored nation status, would cut into his income and his oligarchs income also.
