1. The Romans ruled more by fear, we rule by mutually beneficial economic relationships and alliances.
2. The Roman Empire was more unstable domestically.
3. The Romans were more willing to use force and violence to maintain power.
Pros and cons to both circumstances. If the United States maintains its traditions, remembers its history, and adheres to the principles upon which it was founded, it can remain a great power for just as long.
