Dealing with this RIGHT NOW!!! My supervisor is an awesome man. Knows his stuff, but will not delegate much to save his life. I ask every day what does he have for me, and even as an intern I have something to prove, so I need work to use as a basis, and to validate myself to them. I know I'll succeed in some and fail in others. I've told them that, but to do either they have to give me work, a tasker, something beyond the bitch boy work. But it's also politics. I see how many civilians go bat sh*t crazy whenever the government isn't open, furloughs, or the topic of shudowns come up. These folks are damn near ready to drive the USS Enterprise up their "buddies" a** to kick him out of a job, so they can take it. It's totally different than in the Army. We had/have Blue Falcons, but this......THIS is crazy Blue Falconing in progress. Supporting the team? They have no idea how that's really done. Mentoring? I asked that in my interview and there really is none. I know someone would say why not quit and get a job now that pays, and I've been blessed with a few folks on here who've offered. I cannot go because I'm too arrogant to quit, and too stupid to give in. I need to prove to myself I have some resilience in me, and they cannot break me. Also if I quit what happens to the next vet behind me? Also while here, I get to learn even when doing bitchwork. It's the small details that you pick up, learn, and when it's time use them to make change. But if where I work was run like a PLT or Company, heads would explode, and there would massive and sudden exit interviews because they have no real camaraderie.

I think when we get that mentality of anything bigger than who we are we become very arrogant and ignorant to others. That is a slippery slope. Second I think fast tracking doesn't help the generation that thinks everything is owed to them so they don't learn how to work and grow from their trials and successes. Lastly we don't have many Leaders to mentor very effectively in showing how to be at certain levels. Example. You fast track to a field grade and now you have to evaluate someone but lack the depth and scope.

CPT (Join to see)
LTC (Join to see) What you said is very true. It is reflected in field grade officers not knowing how to complete reports, write counseling statements, understand operations...

This is why taking full stock of a 360 evaluation and self reflection is one of the most important things for a leader. If you get so caught up in yourself then you will likely leave your organization rudderless.
