LtCol Matthew Sutton - Yes, if you check my profile I was both. The S-2 Officer was an 0202 Captain by TO/E. I was an 0302 1stLt, but our 0202 Intel Officer was relieved for cause. The Battalion CO and XO approached me and told me was going to Fleet Intelligence School in San Diego... and that I was already two days late.

We didn't have a NOD section, that was at Regiment. The only night vision gear we saw belonged to Dragons in Weapons Co, and TOWS at Regt.

Maj John Bell - Why does relief of a rotten apple (banana?) seem to make a good Apple late?
My good buddy from ROTC assignment Armor LTC, whose first THREE assignments were Infantry (not authorized a CIB, but has Earned EIB) got to stay in Nashville as PMS at Vanderbuilt U. when he finished his MEPS station command. Retired, got his ED PhD, and still influences MIddle School kids. Hoo-ah!

MAJ (Join to see) - It was there way of saying they had to jump through hoops, because the class had already started. It was a humorous way of saying we'll take care of any loose threads here. Go home, pack your bags, kiss your wife and get to San Diego by morning.

Humor always beats crying, but leads to the saying, " we should not give up our day ( and night) job, to be a comedian."
