First, this absurdity is drawing attention from greater issues that plague our nation. Why is this taking the spotlight away from economy, jobs, healthcare, immigration, selecting our next President, terrorism, foreign affairs and so much more?
Second, for years I have shared the bathroom with homosexuals, transexuals, transvestites, bisexuals, or other sexuals. I have even shared with women who needed to go badly. I was less comfortable with the female because I now felt compelled to conduct myself a bit more carefully (she runs by as I am at urinal - I don't wish her to see my 'goods' or lack thereof). I have never been assaulted by someone of any gender perceived or genetic but that does not mean it doesn't happen. Suddenly, NOW is an issue?
Third, I fear the predators will mostly be heterosexual males looking to take advantage of the loophole that you merely have to claim to be "trapped" in a man's body to obtain their malfeasant jollies. Another, concern is schools. We already have unresolved issues with bullies and such and this may only increase the chances of bullying if the school doesn't have a good handle on it. Most don't. There is also playfulness. Boyfriend and Girlfriend decide to "play". Does it happen already? Of course, so why make it easier?
My belief is that it is a bathroom. Period. There are male and female and sometimes a family bathroom. Though very similar they are designed with the genetic gender or purpose in mind. For example, Men's rooms are designed with urinals and Women's don't. Nicer bathrooms will have an attendant with hot towels, toiletries, etc as needed for the gender they are attending to. If you have male plumbing go to the Men's room. If you don't, you don't. It is F***ing toilet not a hotel room. I do not want to share a bathroom with a woman. I would be embarrassed if I had to go in there and my butt 'sneezed'. Guys, well we have jokes based on that. If you are serious about your gender 'identity' go post-op, have you ID state you are the gender you identify with etc. If no one notices, no one will care. No one did before until this media fiasco.
I have two family members that at some point came out as gay. They later stated transgender. They had other lingo that I didn't quite understand but I also didn't care. I needed no explanation, they were family. Too much to keep track with my pee wee brain. One was due to a sense of a bad experience IMHO they other was just that way. Still I didn't care. I just wanted them to be happy, secure, and fairly treated. Neither wish to have operations. Until the TG transformation is complete they are still the physical gender they were born with NOT the one they want to be or identify with. I love them but they should use the appropriate bathroom. I am a hetero male, I don't get a choice. My kids don't get a choice. I identify as being a rockstar but I have no voice, no money, no women but I demand that I am treated as a rock star!

Maj Rob Drury - I was created as a female with a male defect. Regardless of how you personally perceive me, my gender of female will hold up in any court of law. Therefore, if a law is passed saying that you can only use the restroom that corresponds with your ID or birth certificate, then I would be required to use the women's restroom. If anyone tries to assault me or sue me for it, I will win.

SFC Alfredo Garcia - I can understand your point of view, though I do not agree with it. What I do not understand is why people are so afraid of penises. The whole plumbing issue really comes down to that. Most men wouldn't care if a man with a vagina uses the men's room, but everyone freaks out when a woman with a penis uses the women's room. If nobody sees it, does it really pose a problem?

LTJG (Join to see) It is healthy to disagree. I have learned most from people that I disagree with or least think differently. Maybe if I wore your shoes I would have a different sentiment. I have friends and family members of all walks of life and it is their character not their appendages that I concern myself with. It has not changed my stance.
Penises are not the issue, it is the mind of those that have them (or don't have them). I did say I felt most uncomfortable with a woman coming into a restroom along with me. I have to assume she feels just as uncomfy and probably desperate if she decided to 'chance it'. Men are just as insecure as women. We are just expected to hide it better. If a teen identified as a 21 year old should he/she be able to drink? If I identified as disabled should I be able to use disabled parking? Though rare, there are worldly teens out there. Maybe I do have a disability but just difficult to diagnose. In both cases, regardless, of course not. There is a clear and delineated standard and with 7 billion people on this planet there is going to outliers, cultural clashes, and such.
I have actually enjoyed dialoguing/debating with you. I have a lot of respect on your views, your mature presentation, and the hardships you may be going through. I am glad you, by your own admission, are easily passing as a female. That makes it easier for you. No one will bother you as long as you are not doing anything nefarious or otherwise drawing attention to yourself. Due to media attention, people are now LOOKING. I simply do not care but if forced to, I still choose that your gender as depicted by your birth certificate or ID card.
I do acknowledge that times are changing and with more positive representatives such as yourself so will the fears and sentiments. I would be glad to continue this discussion via email or about any subject for that matter. I think we killed this horse though. I don't think anyone wants to hear about us anymore lol.

LTJG (Join to see) - It is not males objecting to anyone, is the fact that females deserve private spaces.
This is ingrained in our society . Females have absolutely no proof natural born males entering their private spaces are
gender Female.
Males are the aggressor in sex crimes by huge margin, huge, and females have the rights by birth, by the numbers,
and just by general respect and safety to have private spaces.
The fact that this whole transgender issues rest on who can and can't have a private space, and who can enter there, shows it is aggression by trans people.

For all of my 70+ years I had wished to be rich and handsome. Now I see all I had to do was identify as such.
Slowly shaking my head.

All i keep seeing is the same thing from ignorant people. "I have no idea what it means to be transgender but I think it's Icky and I'm going to make them as miserable as possible because, why not."
History repeats itself. The same people creating the transgender bathroom issue are the same people who tried to keep "colored" bathrooms.
I AM TRANSGENDER. I am active duty. I fight for your right to hate me. But if anyone wants to be educated instead of remaining ignorant feel free to message me.

Maj Rob Drury - I thought I balanced the down votes with my up votes. I think you have a very valid point. I appreciate your thoughts and insight. It's all about the diversity of thought. We may disagree but in the end it's all about taking care of the mission and our people.

I wonder why I'm putting down votes, Maj Rob, when he then refers to me as his/hers/its. seriously? ITS?! Because obviously I'm not a person. He mentioned earlier that "transgenders are not needed" Using the word transgender as a noun is just a another way to dehumanize a group of people that already have to struggle with enough, then he has the audacity to say we are not needed. Like he knows every single one of us and immediately dismisses every transgender service member as useless. So yes I will down vote comments that are hate speech.

Fight for private Trans restrooms and locker rooms, then you are seen as having self respect.
