While I absolutely believe that there is a problem, I would really like to see some of the senior leadership take these exams, too. Let us see how well they do...

PO2 Eric Schlatter - Not sure what kind of training you had, but that stuff and more was always covered in duty section training and other avenues (at least on every ship I have been on)...

Basic seamanship hasn't been a Navy priority for the past 30 years. How many Navy sailors know where their ship's sextant is stored and how to use it?

Every OOD I worked with knew where it was.... now how to use it? Personally, I used to test my QM's all the time on celestial Nav. Used to have competitions to see who could get the smallest error. Mainly did it to teach myself CELNAV....
