I was always amazed at those Japanese soldiers who refused to surrender. The amount of indoctrination they must have endured cannot be overlooked in their refusal to believe the war was over. I remember Hiroo Onoda very well when he surrendered in 1974.

Read the autobiography of one who held out in Guam... don't recall his name now... and can't get rid of the ads on the story you posted. What i DO remember is that when ge was eventually repatriated he was received with full honors... appropriately IMHO
