For decades the US paid almost the whole cost of defending 350 million rich western Europeans from 250 million poor Russians. I have never understood that one. Bearing most of the burden on the Korean peninsula made sense while South Korea was dirt poor, but the Koreans have a standard of living well up in the middle class these days, they should be paying for us to defend them. We are not the whole world's cop. FDR and Truman got us into that role and we've been stuck there for over 60 years. IMHO.

Excellent explanation of the reality of our protecting the ungrateful from the unhinged. I could not agree more.

The left is all for the "rich need to pay a little bit more" when it comes to US citizens. But, when that is applied to our allies, it's "Oh my gosh he is a devil and traitor." Makes no sense at all, and makes people look foolish. It made sense to pay the freight for these countries protection when they could;t afford it. Now they can, they should start paying their own bills. That money can be spent better at home.

once again, trump proves that he would rather be buddies with a dictator (North Korea) than an ally (South Korea)

By paying more to offset the US taxpayer funded Americans there to serve as a tripwire? Good plan.
