Donald Trump has said he is willing to blow past the $2.2trn price tag on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s latest coronavirus stimulus offer.
That would be fine by Ms Pelosi, whose House Democratic caucus passed a $3.4trn package as far back as May, a bill that has languished in the GOP-controlled Senate.
But its penny-pinchers in his own party whom Mr Trump has to negotiate with — not Ms Pelosi: As Mr Trump urges Congress to “go big” on a Covid-19 relief deal, Senate Republicans have teed up a vote on a bill next week worth just roughly a quarter of the administration’s latest $1.8trn offer.
In an interview on Fox Business on Thursday, the president told host Stuart Varney he would not pick up the phone to call Ms Pelosi himself because she has “mental problems,” suggesting it wouldn’t be worth his time.

This is an unfair hit piece. The reason the Republicans are rejecting it is not the money. It's where the money will go to. The Republicans refused to bail out democrat-run cities that don't even have the money to pay the retirement obligations. They can't fix your street so their water systems. Additionally, there are poison pills all through the Democrats side of the bill that include amnesty for illegal aliens, stimulus checks for illegal aliens, lifetime mail in balloting it is not absentee balloting where no signature is on file. There are so many poison pills in here that the Republicans refuse to sign it.

Although he is not a politician, President Trump is now playing politics. No stimulus is going to save America and Americans. It is simply another debt piled atop unpayable debts. But Pelosi played politics by offering to go deeper into debt, not with stimulus checks, but rather with stimulus checks camouflaging open borders, general amnesty, and a host of other progressive causes. Senate Republicans countered with stimulus checks without the other stuff. Now comes President Trump offering to match Pelosi's price tag, but stripped of the nonsense. It's all politics...
