Trump: 'It Was a Mistake' to Retweet Attack on Cruz's Wife

Since Mr. Trump started his campaign, he has been in the lime light, his off the cuff remarks on grass roots issues as well as those on the national issue have been bold and without regard for diplomacy. He has capitalized on the anger of the nation and those that welcome an anti establishment agenda by insulting everyone and making outlandish promises and statements. He puts himself out as a buisness man who has built his own wealth and that he understands what the average working citizen's struggles are and what they are facing. Given his background, how can this be true?

Recently the 2016 Presidential Election has stooped to a new low as candidate's wives have become targets. Mr. Trump recently retweeted a unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz next to one of Melania. His defense for doing this was essentially that Ted Cruz had done it first, ” insisting that Ted Cruz wrote the words on the digital ad put up by an anti-Trump group aimed at Utah Mormons; it showed Melania in a 2000 British GQ shot posing provocatively and suggested that it was not First Ladylike. Cruz denies any involvement."

Between this and Mr. Trump's comments that women should be punished but not men in the case of an abortion, Mr. Trump suffered a decline in the polls: 68% in one poll and 73% in another showing women's opinion of Mr. Trump is unfavorable. Seeing this he has backtracked on both issues. When confronted, Mr. Trump now says, “If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have sent it.”, "Truth be told, Trump said he “didn’t love the photo” of Melania. “

Is Mr. Trump a red herring? Just about everything he does seems to be with the intention of being misleading or distracting.

How will the tactic of speaking one's mind and then retracting it play out should he become President?
