Honestly it wouldn't matter who is in the position. If he is not fully supported by the POTUS, those underneath him, and those he has to reach out to in order to implement change, then he's going to fail just like every single other Secretary before him.

I believe the last one failed due to his own personal sense of self importance rather than actual incompetence in the position. His predecessor was an ring knocker and a former commander in the 82nd. So we have a vet, an officer, and he was in charge of one of Big Pharma's major stakeholders. He had experience at high levels of civilian management. The more you pull the onion back, you'll see a trend of former military in the positions who got no help from everyone I named who will doom the current, with the addition of congress.

I sincerely hope he can pull the impossible, but if his agenda isn't inline with the POTUS, congress, and the rest, he'll be gone before elections.

SSG Warren Swan "I believe the last one failed due to his own personal sense of self importance rather than actual incompetence in the position." Nailed it Brother. He lost me when I read about him using his security detail to bring in purchases from a shopping trip.

Can he do any worse than the previous ones? I really like having senior military members (or retirees) in the position. Having someone that was only in a few years or not at all is bad optics IMO.

Inexperienced at large organizations with a heavy administrative role. But time will tell.
