I made a comment about this subject in another post. I mentioned the amount of equipment a Platoon Leader had to "Hand Receipt" that crept up into the millions, including weapons, vehicles, and gear. And he was responsible for 50 men under his direct command. And he was on Duty 24 hours a day...and often times Officers and Senior NCO's had many hours of work AFTER us grunts were released. So yeah, it needs a different pay scale to make it any where near "equal."

Officers are paid well. When I retired I grossed $10K and brought home $8K as a major at 20. Ever since I was a little boy I wanted to serve and eventually become an officer. To get free medical, housing, and get spending money on top of the honor to commission was bonus!

MAJ Byron Oyler - Wow! I was a Sergeant bringing home: $126 bucks a month. Everybody in my family served, My Dad, every Uncle on both sides, and five of my brothers. The two that didn't serve, one was hurt in a car wreck that took part of his brain...and the other was a Priest. So I just thought you went in the Service and then go on with your life.

MAJ Byron Oyler - Sorry, that was my pay when I got to my first Duty Station. My pay as a Sgt (under 2 yrs) was $297. Man my memory sucks.
