Trump told reporter that he agreed with Jan. 6 protesters: 'I wanted what they wanted'

Washington Post reporter Carol Leonnig revealed on MSNBC that, when meeting with Donald Trump, he confessed that he was on board with the Jan. 6 protesters attacking the U.S. Capitol.

"I remember my co-author and I, when we wrote a book about the last year of Donald Trump's presidency, we went to visit him and interview him on the record," she recalled.

"He was no longer president, but he was in Mar-a-Lago. And we asked him, what did you want to happen? And that day — that day — he said, I wanted what the protesters wanted. I wanted what they wanted, which was essentially to break into the Capitol and stop the certification of the vote. That intent is critical."

The conversation was about the recent revelations that special counsel Jack Smith obtained Donald Trump's cell phone to search for evidence related to the 2020 election overthrow attempt.
