As a civilian who visited for work and tourism, it is really sad to see this beautiful country in such upheaval. I was there last in 2013, when they were already having issues with tense encounters in Istanbul. Only minor riots happened when I was there, but there were riot police stationed on every street corner...

Sad, it was a great tour when I was there in 89-90. Little to crazy politically now.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I worked with the Turkish AF personnel stationed there on a daily basis and they were a professional force to work with. Traveled alot off post all along the Med and never had a problem with the civilian populace. Lost my wallet once and it turned up at the main gate a couple months later.
