Please with your GREAT wisdom explain to us naives the past and current geo-political situation with the Kurds and Turkey. Please go into detail how the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent drawing of the current borders by the then British Empire has affected the region's politics and wars. Lastly, please touch on how removing probably no more than 50 US Special Operations Forces from that immediate area with an Advisory Role so they do not get killed in a Blue on Green event by Turkish Forces is a bad thing.

Do you remember when the Obama Administration drew the red line in the sand and the Syrians jumped right over it? What was "The Great One's" response to that? Nothing....

Too bad the Turkish military's coup attempt failed, there might be a moderate running Turkey now and this probably would have been avoided.

SPC Angela Burnham - Oh please do tell us specifically how you know those Kurdish soldiers are noble? Do you have an inside iggy on the group or groups that no one else does? Let me tell you about "noble" Kurds that blew up a GI bar outside of Incirlik AB Turkey circa 1990. They were "noble" because at least they had the common courtesy to do it while it was unoccupied. Why don't you go and join a "noble" Kurdish militia, be careful though. There are several Kurdish groups identified by the US as "noble" terrorist organizations. Oh please do share with us your utterly brilliant insight that you so magically have.

Oh I wouldn't dare, I'll leave that to our President and his "unmatched wisdom". Maybe he can send some of those brand new Sherman battle tanks over there, or maybe he can send some minutemen from the revolutionary war to occupy Turkey's air bases. Anythings possible.

Why this childish middle school name calling? I'm disgusted with these comments. For your information, the Kurds could of/would of/should of/ been a country after WWI as they had been before - Kurdistan. The French and British divided up the Ottoman Empire into fiefs and Kurdistan was subdivided into parts in Turkey, Iran, and Iraq, all divided by the French and British. That's why Lawrence of Arabia refused his knighthood.

LTC (Join to see) - I already answered the question. And I never said anything about OMB. Strawman targets all the way down.

You are correct. Had the coup attempt by the Turkish military been successful there would be a moderate in charge of Turkey now.

MAJ,
I have not been able to keep up with the situation. My information is very limited. I remember reading about the Kurds, due to fighting ISIS, move forward to take ground.
We see Turkey using this as a reason to attack it's long time enemy. But I do not think this is the real reason Turkey has entered Syria.
I might be wrong. But from Erdogan's past behavior, I suspect a larger issue a foot.
Just my gut feeling.

Cpl Mark A. Morris I agree with you - there is a larger issue. I just don't think any of that issue is a benefit to US security in terms that it's worth sacrificing a long-term ally for.
