That wasn't policing, at least not good policing. They acted like a bunch of Bullying Thugs beating someone who pissed them off.

Absolutely! I am angry. This is not a reflection of Law enforcement as a whole and the fact that this is tainting the entire profession pisses me off even more.

These thugs bring shame to the vast majority of the other 800,000 law enforcement officers in this country.

I don't think it was any kind of policing but more like a pack of Wolves attacking a helpless animal.

As an ex-LEO, it sickens me to see this violation of a human being and the disrepute this brings on Police. The problems were exacerbated years ago when budget cuts led to lowering recruitment standards for education and background as well as the length and quality of training for recruits. In the U.S., training to be a police officer, and carry a gun on behalf of the state, ranges from as few as 8 weeks to as much as 36 weeks. Compare that to Norway where Officers must attend their nations' three-year police universities, and leave with degrees that are equivalent to a bachelor's. Oh, and by they, they are paid better too.

Is there a major metro area that has lowered its standards? They haven't around here. I think the bigger problems break down into two areas. 1. The current social environment has made Professional LEO's unattractive. 2. The practice of hiring a cop that lost his job somewhere else, usually for being a bad cop. So you can't recruit the people you want and hire the ones you shouldn't hire.

Good comment and on target. A number of major departments have in fact lowered standards, this is one quote from a Pro-police article "Police departments are relaxing age-old standards for accepting recruits, from lowering educational requirements to forgiving some prior drug use, to try to attract more people to their ranks. The changes are designed to deal with decreased interest in a job that offers low pay, rigorous physical demands and the possibility of getting killed on duty all while under intense public scrutiny."

Memphis dropped their requirements and at least two of the five were hired after. I don’t know that education requirements are as important as character, integrity, ethics and desire. I believe that a new officer should arrive with integrity and veracity……. And they should leave with AT LEAST, those two things intact.

No excuse for this at all but there is also no excuse for the rioting and destroying others personal property and stores and looting and stealing as well...those folks had nothing to do with these ignorant @$$ cops. Rioting and breaking the law is not justified to protest someone who broke the law. Violence does not equal violence!

As far as I am concerned Looters should be shot on site, they take a situation, a Protest, that has social value and making it meaningless. Those business owners had nothing to do with the actions of the 5 degenerates who will be going on trial, these are just Lawbreaking Low Life @$$ Hats taking advantage of a situation.
