it appears to be a VERY small step. I am not seeing where I would be allowed to carry. Period. I am not/was not security forces. AND I am a nurse..... bet the medical groups will not allow medical staff carry (open OR concealed)....even tho that is one of the more likely locations for a shooting to happen.

I am curious how many wing commanders are actually going to allow it for thier wings and how many unit commanders will actually use the UMP.

Not enough would be my guess.... and being medical, I can see the medical community NOT allowing it at all due to "sacred ground" of the medical facility...however, as events have shown in the past, medical is as much, or MORE at risk then other locations on base. IF the medical units allow it, I bet they only allow it by people in logistics and admin (probably won't allow med techs, nurses, or docs to carry)...... My PERSONAL opinion is that the AF would be better served by allowing concealed carry by those that have a concealed permit issued by the state. If they require an additional class put on by Security Forces for how to engage and then stand down with arrival of security forces, I would have no issues with that.

I'm glad that the Air Force is seriously considering different options for on base carry as I think many agree that being able do defend ourselves is a must in this day and age. As a trained SF Augmentee I also like the sound of a "Unit Marshal" position. It could gave all on base units the ability to have trained individuals as a first line of defense until appropriate Security Forces personnel can respond and it would mean that SF themselves would not be over encumbered shift wise by needing to place more personnel on each shift to cover the entire base. I can't wait to see how this pans out.
