A U.S. Navy ship is stranded in Lake Erie at the Port of Cleveland, due to a recent strike by St. Lawrence Seaway employees.
The Navy’s newest Littoral Combat Ship the USS Marinette is trying to make its way to the Atlantic Ocean, but the strike shut down water traffic on the St. Lawrence River to the Atlantic Ocean.
The strike began on Oct. 22 and a tentative agreement was reached on Oct. 29, but there is now a bottleneck of ships waiting to leave from various ports.
“The resumption of ship traffic for ships waiting in queue will follow an established traffic management plan. Your patience and collaboration during the resumption period are much appreciated,” said St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) in a statement on Oct. 29.
