There we go mass punishment... I knew there was something about the military I hated!

So you view drinking as some sort of right not to be infringed? You view the restriction of drinking alcohol as a punishment?
Im sure you are familiar with the phrase mission accomplishment..If the mission is to relocate the U.S. Marines' Futenma air base to a less populous part of Okinawa and overall retain our ability to hold the ground in Okinawa something the Okinawa governor and many locals are against, would you not support the commander in doing what he feels is vital and tactically required to complete his mission?
Are you advocating ignoring a clear impediment to mission accomplishment?

SGM Erik Marquez - It isn't about the alcohol. It is about the stupidity of mass punishment. Mass punishment does not work. It only really effects the ones who follow the rules in the first place.
There are other things to consider. If you say no one can do it then you are punishing those who did nothing wrong. Typically, it is the vast majority who have not done anything wrong. So then you hurt the overall morale of everyone there. It then also creates an environment where people will do it anyway. So now you have punished those who did nothing wrong while at the same time doing nothing to stop the problem. But now you have created a new set of problems. Instead of just enforcing the rules and making example out of the wrong doers, you have told the entire organization that they can't be trusted. So now you have created a deeper divide. This will only make things worse. It is not right or fair.

SSG Pete Fleming - Perhaps my earlier response was to much for you to respond with a focused answer that addresses the questions posed... Let me try again.

The last time I was on the Island (2002), there was a program that consisted of SNCOs and Officers going out into town (clubs) to keep an eye on drinking activities at night. Not that this program really helped much but I wonder if it went away completely or what. Regardless, there is no way to completely control drinking on the rock. The best you can do is ensure your section leaders know their Marines enough to prevent such behavior.

No off base liberty. Doesn't everyone know what this means? No Coco Ichabanya for our service members until the restriction is lifted. I get the alcohol ban but a ban on Cocos is terrible.
