I just finished reading this book and recommend it highly, very highly. It truly is a must read for all Americans. These two law makers blazed a path that we should all follow. They simply began with friendship built on common concerns and within that friendship found the confidence and trust to deal with contentious issues. Among the lessons they learned was the need to deal with people, not groups, and listen, really listen, and learn the language of the person with whom you're talking. Indeed, even here on RP where I expect to meet respect with respect, those who attack me begin by casting me in a group and then vilifying me as a member of that group. They misinterpret whatever I write to fit their narrative of what they expect me to say rather than what I actually say. As I said, this book is a must read or we are going to descend further into the abyss of misunderstanding and arguing
