I do find that of interest, I'd read of instances here of such problems, incl. on the app here. There's been a whole thing about grad school assistances, adminor grad asst, (GAs), research assets (RAs), and teaching asst (TAs), that I've watched now here for a fair while, and their whole thing about being deemed employees, as opposed to purely trainees, suitable for unionization. Now, I've actually known of instances where such union stuff has bee allowed, I'm not saying that's the sa!e thing as what's mentioned here, I suppose what's meant here deals more with student newspapers, and/or student groups, I merely mention that whole other aspect, solely as it seemed relevant., that's all, I just thought it interesting food for thought in thinking about the whole topic, you know?

Unionization of Grad Students/TAs/RAs is a bad idea. They ARE receiving the benefit of real-world experience in an academic environment and in the case of RAs, may even get co-authorship on research papers. They already get paid... why would it be correct for THEM to dictate how much?

What would unionization do in the field of archaeology? Anthropology?

They compete for the jobs... let them be thankful they’re selected.
