My Battalion was on the deployment and main body had a camp site on the Leatherneck side (as we Seabees built the camp in 2009), the FOB is split Leather Neck and Bastion. The leather neck side is all the ground troop marines Combat and combat support. The Bastion side had the Airfield and the MAW (Marine Air Wing) camped over on that side and had just reinforced security as there was a heighten threat from insiders the locals working on both sides. The Marines acted the way they were trained run to the gunfire. The AP had left so we had a few key billets left on site doing a RIP or turn over, with on coming Battalion. personnel like the CO and Command Master Chief. The big thing is there is a big distance between the two camps, so Marine side was all locked on in case anything came that way. They did not want to get over to the Marine side, would have been real bad for them.
