I remember the whole deal, was in V Corps Rear CP at the time in Kuwait. Her and the other's return was over shadowed by the media hype the Army did on Pfc. Jessica Lynch. Lynch's return almost over shadowed the fact there were deaths as well. When the dust settled, I was so glad Lynch came out and almost everything she said was a 180 degree turn from the Army story. I've got to give her credit.
I really got a bad distaste for the media out of this event. Johnson and all were good soldiers doing their jobs and got caught in a bad position.

SGM Mikel Dawson
SFC Jack S. - I understand. Us down range, grew to have great disrespect for the Army PA section after their big boondoggle.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs And she still had to fight for her benefits? I seriously think everyone in the VA should be fired, and start over from scratch. How the hell was her case ambiguous?

Great story, but there's another that I've been trying to track down. Please allow me to ask for your help. Shortly after Dessert Storm was launched a small article appeared in the news that no one ever followed up. It was about a young enlisted woman who had joined the reserves and was caught up in the deployment. When she arrive in Saudi Arabia she was assigned to drive a tanker hauling JP4. Inasmuch as she had never driven any sort of truck she was put into class, but the war kicked off before she could complete her lessons. For example, she hadn't yet learned how to back up. Her superiors told her not to worry, they were only going forward. All she had to do was follow the vehicle in front of her. Thus she set off across the dessert without even the benefit of an assistant driver. Yes, she was alone. A mine blew off her wheel and the convoy passed on with orders to stop for no one or no thing. Passing engineers helped her replace the destroyed tire and told her to just follow the tracks in the sand. She did until a windstorm obliterated them. The bottom line is that she ended up lost in the dessert and ready for anything, especially capture, when she was discovered by a flight of Apache helicopters looking for just what she had a tanker full of. They landed and refueled and then shepherded her back to the convoy. Well, that's as much as I got from the news.
Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone have more info? I think it would make a helluva good movie...
