No chance. Merchant ships NEVER communicate directly with light. He's trying to cover his ass specifically BECAUSE his black box will show no attempts to communicate.

Whatever the ACX Crystal did or failed to do, I still can't understand why the Fitzgerald did not or was not able to avoid the collision. Having said that, the extent of my nautical knowledge is to be able to distinguish "fore" and "aft" in a rowboat ... so I am open to enlightenment.
