Its very sad Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen. We need to do better than to send our boys and girls off to war and then to bring them home with what I still suspect is very little support. I think things are better today but we have much more to do. When I left Vietnam I was home a day and a half later and I had an incident that was not a suicide event but could have ended up the same way.

That is a great story, obviously only being home a day and a half you were able to work it out on your own which is a key point.

1SG (Join to see) - It was a struggle Jerry. I left Vietnam in 1972, I didn't get sober until 1986 and stayed that way til I lost my wife at Christmas, 2000. Another six year nosedive to hell and Ive been sober again since 2006. I was fortunate that I had wives who supported me in spite of my shortcomings

SFC William Farrell - I am glad to hear that it got better, eventually, without devolving completely. Support from family is critical. In fact, having that leg kicked out of my support structure is what almost got me. I don't know if I can ever tell him, but my (then) 2 year-old son I think made the difference more than once.
