This is a really sad case. In my earlier life I was involved in the EMS system and often transported patients to the VA in Tucson. They generally received excellent care. Reading this OIG report there are multiple points where the short term outcome of this patient could have been different, but with the wear and tear on his body by his own alcohol intoxications and subsequent issues the outcome of this case....well it is doubtful that it would have had a happy ending.
