Fred was not only a good radioman on a submarine chaser in WWII, he was also a scholar with a degree from the famous Ivy League Harvard University. After his military service, Fred tried his luck in Hollywood and succeeded in a slew of roles, from Herman Munster in Frankenstein to Colonel J. C. Kinkaid in The Texas Trilogy and much more.
