Ho Chi Minh and General Giap knew that the US was their only hope but we were to busy screaming Commie to listen. The Vietnamese would rather deal with us across the Pacific than China on their border

Yeah... we were too busy supporting our French ‘ally’ in the beginning & fighting the red menace.

If not for France’s determination to keep their global pre-WWII colonies our Vietnam involvement probably never would have happened.

The french are festering pimples on the ass of the planet

After we tried so hard to put them in their place and stop communism in the region, now we recognize them with a ceremonial courtesy visit by a carrier normally reserved for allies or 'friendly' nations. What a sad turn of events in the world that would bring this remarkable show. 58,000 KIAs so we could pay them a courtesy visit? Not worth it.

I'll never figure that whole thing out, never, the more I hear about that, the onoy thought thst occurs to me is that, being as Vietnam the China out also in a war they had after he one with the US, imcam only think the US wants to get help from Vietnam to deal with China, the thing is, both are Commie madhouses, to my way of thinking, you know?

The Vietnamese are VERY pragmatic. Communism was their 2nd choice. Don’t forget the dustups they had with China in ‘78 (or ‘79) and the ‘stabilization’ ops in Laos & Cambodia after WE left.

War is bad for business. The Vietnamese will eventually fully embrace capitalism. In the meantime, they have no trouble playing the US against China... for that matter, weren’t they talking to Russia about using facilities at Cam Ranh Bay?

Interesting multi-way chess game.

I follow, whatmtou say about apVietnam miayne going capitalist as a matter of pragmatism is an imteresting point, I'm aware of the historical aspect of Pres Eisenhower having turned down Ho Chi Minh, I'd read of that, your aspect of pragmatism was also quite thought provoking, I can quite entirely fathom your point, however, I dont view it as chess, I view it as !mathematical process, governed by statistical game theory, my mind just tends to ne inclined in such a direction, by don't of my prior training, I suppose, though I quite grasp your point, as I'd said, many thanks.
