Vietnam Veterans Honor Song

From as far back as I can remember, when I was a young boy growing up in Oklahoma, patriotism and respect for our military were instilled in me early. Over time, as I began to understand more about the Nation's current affairs and constantly ask my dad an endless amount of questions, my fascination with the military was of fevered pitch. A short time later, my dad took me with him to the American Legion one evening and after their meeting, he introduced me to his fellow Veterans. All of them had my total respect that night, but the interaction I had that evening with the small group of Vietnam Veterans, the subsequent list of upcoming Veteran support events that I was invited to help them with, and the following couple of years, they became larger than life to the then 12 year old fella.. Then, on 23NOV82, my dad was killed in a car wreck, and as I was trying to come to grips with his loss, they came to the rescue and closed ranks around me for my dad. The manner in which they themselves conducted the Honor Guard detail at his funeral was meaningful and special to me, and is remembered often. To the Vietnam Veteran, thank you for your service to our Country, thank you for being there for a young fella when he needed it the most, and thank you for being those that I looked up to back then, and still think of as "ten feet tall" today!
