Virginia city council honors fallen Muslim soldier's family

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Charlottesville city council is declaring its support for a family who lost a son in Iraq and became part of the narrative in the presidential election.
Media outlets report that the council honored Khizr and Ghazala Khan at Monday's meeting.
The council proclamation honors the family for the sacrifice of their son, Humayun Khan, an Army captain who was killed in 2004 in Iraq and posthumously received the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.
The proclamation also recognizes the family for speaking out against "anti-Muslim rhetoric." Khizr Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention last month, repudiating Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who later criticized Khan for speaking out against his candidacy.
Khizr Khan thanked the community for its support since their arrival from Pakistan years ago.

I understand why a Virginia city would honor the slain captain and I expect this city council supports Tim Kaine's run for vice president.
