VVA to Obama: Why pardon felons and not suffering vets?

I think he is pandering to the democratic base. Pardoning suffering veterans is unhelpful in the mind of a gentleman who has mostly turned out to be a useful idiot for the left.
The reasons for the addition of "idiot"?
If he had pardoned traditionally conservative voters he might have turned a few more conservatives towards the Democratic Party.
After all, while Trump carried away a huge number of the electoral votes, he carried them away by the thinnest of margins in many states.
