On October 1, 1854, the watch company founded in 1850 in Roxbury by Aaron Lufkin Dennison relocates to Waltham, Massachusetts, to become the Waltham Watch Company, a pioneer in the American System of Watch Manufacturing. I have had several of these watches. From the article:

In 1850, at Roxbury, Massachusetts, David Davis, Edward Howard, and Aaron Lufkin Dennison formed the company that would later become the Waltham Watch Company. Their revolutionary business plan was to manufacture the movement parts of watches so precisely that they would become fully interchangeable. Based upon the experience of earlier failed trials, Howard and Dennison eventually perfected and patented their precision watch making machines, creating what has been called the American System of Watch Manufacturing.

I used to drive by it on Main St in Waltham all the time...I also lived on Waltham st in Nashua NH 20 years ago (all the streets in the neighborhood were named after watches...!).....Been inside the old Chelsea Clock factory in Chelsea Mass too...Very cool!

We passed this on the road north. Massachusetts was the US center of watchmaking.
